Safety built on trust
Reward Rangers is an app for kids β so we hold ourselves to stricter rules than most. On this page we explain honestly how we protect your family. And just as honestly, what we deliberately do differently.
No child account needed
Kids sign in with a 6-digit secret ranger code β no email address, no password, no account of their own. There's simply no child profile that would have to exist anywhere online.
No strangers
There are no public profiles, no search, no open rooms. The family chat only connects people you've brought into your squad yourself β contact with strangers is technically impossible.
You're in control
Stars are only awarded after your approval, you set the rewards and rules, and you grant permissions per child. The app gives your child room to grow β but always within the boundaries you've set.
No strangers. No purchase traps. No data hoarding.
Just your family β and a little confetti. π
A secret code instead of a child account
The safest data is the data you never collect in the first place. That's why kids don't need an account with us.
- Secret ranger code: every child gets a 6-digit code β easy to remember, even for pre-readers. No email, no password, no child account.
- One parent account for everything: only you register with an email and password. All kids hang off your family account β you keep the overview.
- Logout protection: a small math question prevents kids from signing out accidentally (or signing each other out on purpose).
- Deactivate a child: if needed, you can pause a child's access with a single toggle β without deleting anything.
Stars only happen with your okay
Reward Rangers' most important safety promise is educational β and technical.
Child checks off
βRoom's tidy!β β the mission moves to βπ Being checkedβ. No stars yet.
You take a look
Your approval inbox shows all open requests β from all kids, in one place.
You decide
Only your βApprovedβ credits the stars. Or you gently say βTry againβ β no points deducted, no punishment.
π Enforced server-side β not just a button in the app
No child can give themselves stars, not even with tricks: our server checks the rule βpoints only after parent approvalβ on every single request. Same for redeeming in the Treasure Chamber: the server verifies point balance, stock, and wait times β fair for all siblings, identical on every device.
A chat for your family only β where private really means private
The family chat is a closed space: one group for everyone plus private 1:1 messages. And when it comes to private messages, we're consistent β even toward you.
- No strangers, ever: there is no way to reach anyone outside the family β or to be reached by them.
- Private messages are private: 1:1 chats β including between siblings β can only be read by the two people involved. Not even parents. That's a deliberate choice for raising kids on trust rather than surveillance, and the server enforces it technically. We'd rather say that honestly than hide it in the fine print.
- No read receipts: delivery ticks only show whether a message has arrived (ββ) β not whether it was read. Nobody has to feel pressured.
- The server forgets: messages are automatically deleted from the server after 30 days. Your history stays locally on your devices β data doesn't sit online longer than necessary.
How we make money (and how we don't)
A good family app has to pay its own way. We do that transparently β and the choice is yours.
The free version shows ads
The ads are served by Google β we ourselves track nothing and never build an ad profile about your child. And ads never stand between your child and an approval or reward.
Premium for β¬2.69 a month
Prefer none at all? The Premium subscription removes every ad and unlocks unlimited kids, missions & rewards, a second parent, and family radio without a daily limit β for the whole family, cancelable anytime through the app store. Beyond that there are no in-app purchases: no loot boxes, no star packs, no purchase traps.
Both options in detailData-minimal β and if you leave, everything leaves with you
We store as little as possible, for as short as possible, as close to home as possible.
- Servers in the EU: your data lives with our database provider Supabase on servers in the European Union β GDPR-compliant.
- Only a first name is required: for a child we need exactly one piece of information: a first name (or nickname). A birth date is optional β it lets the app celebrate their birthday and hand over the parents' gift. No address, no email.
- Delete means delete: if you delete your family at Base Camp, all associated data is removed β missions, stars, messages, everything.
- A short leash for chat data: chat messages automatically disappear from the server after 30 days.
Reliable β even without a signal, even with two kids on one tablet
Works offline
Checked off in a dead zone? No problem: changes are stored locally and sent automatically as soon as you're back online. A small status badge shows if anything is still pending β nothing gets lost.
Siblings cleanly separated
If two kids share one device, everything still stays personal: each child signs in with their own ranger code and sees their own missions and their own unread messages β nobody snatches the other's news.
What we don't do β and what you can count on
β You won't find any of this here
